Established since 1959 we have built a reputation for quality, friendly service and customer care. We have developed a large and loyal customer base and we are proud to be able to say that a vast majority of these customers come back time after time for motorbikes, motorcycle parts, clothing, accessories and advice. Our staff are highly experienced and enthusiastic and ensure each motorcyclist is truly looked after.
Started by Mr Dave Death himself in 1959, Dave set up the business from his garden shed in Thorley, near Yarmouth. The business retailed Greeves and Bultaco motorcycles and offered standard workshop services to customers on the island.
Whilst the Isle of Wight's size of 148 square miles and a population (now circa 143,000) provided only a small local catchment area, a high proportion of bikers on the island fuelled an ongoing upturn of motorcycle sales and service business.
In 1962, the business relocated to its current location. The larger site offered increased workshop capacity and enabled the business to respond to customer demand for a wider choice of retail bikes through the acquisition of Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and MZ franchises.
In the 1980s, the business relinquished its Honda, Suzuki and MZ franchises to focus and build upon its success of selling Yamaha's expanding and diverse model range.
In the 1990's, following the rebirth of Triumph and commencement of production from its Hinckley factory, DDM saw the market appeal of the new Triumph model range amongst its own customers. Recognising the opportunity, DDM entered the rigorous Triumph franchise application process and in 1995 was successfully appointed as an official Triumph dealer. Appointment as a Peugeot scooter franchise also followed, providing customers with its range of small engine scooters.
In 2000, Dave's son, Pat took over the running of the business but upon his passing two years later, the business was put on the market. Dave's granddaughter, Louise Dove – a keen motorcyclist with a motor trade background sought to keep the business within the family. So - In 2006, Louise acquired the dealership along with her mother Carole Death.
A year later, Louise took sole responsibility for running the business and with a hands-on approach, continues to meet, greet and support each new or existing customer visiting the showroom.
Dave Death Motorcycles is a thriving dealership. Although operating on the Isle of Wight, the dealership sells and delivers motorbikes and scooters to customers all over the UK with a number of overseas sales too. An affordable nationwide delivery is available if required and for mainland customers who would rather visit in-person, we can collect you from the ferry port after your short crossing by prior arrangement.
Whilst retaining 'Dave Death Motorcycles' as a business name may be considered by some as a commercial liability, it has proven to be a strong brand asset. It's memorable and passing tourists and bikers stop to photograph the sign. There's also a growing portion of customers who enjoy the minor 'cult' status of having the businesses' name as a MOT or service stamp!
When you come and visit Dave Death Motorcycles, you can be assured of a nice, relaxed atmosphere and the highest standards of product knowledge and service.
The team at Dave Death Motorcycles live and breathe motorcycles! We like to get to know all our customers and their motorcycling needs. By doing so, we aim to ensure that each and every bike, accessory or clothing item we sell meets their exact expectations.
